Kentucky HorseAccording to The Associated Press, Kentucky, the horse capital of the world, is being overloaded with unwanted horses. Legislation makes it continually more difficult to send retired race horses, unwanted, and old horses to the slaughterhouse, which is good, but animal shelters and auction houses have more horses than they are able to take care of. Many pet owners who have been frightened by the recent pet food recalls and associated illnesses and deaths of beloved pets are resorting to making their own pet food for their dogs and cats. Many animal experts have stated that they do not object to this, but urge pet owners who are makking their own food for their pets to be certain that the foods they use as ingredients are safe for pets (many household foods are extremely dangerouus for example onions, garlic, coffee, sugar to name just a few) and to use safe handling precautions when handling meat that your pet will consume. Mineral and vitamin supplements are available at many vet offices and pet stores to complete your pet’s nutritional needs. Please be sure to research your particular pet’s needs and use careful consideration and meal planning to optimize your beloved pet’s safety and health.
