When a human finds out she is expecting a baby, she begins much planning and preparation to ensure that her baby has the best chance for a healthy delivery. The same is true when your female dog is expecting babies. Begin your planning by selecting a vet that will be on call for the birth. If a puppy gets stuck, or the mom’s temperature suddenly drops or rises, or she is pushing and nothing is happening it is time to get your vet involved. A c-section may be necessary, or another form of intervention that could save the life of the puppy or the mom.
The birth of new life is a joyful time, but also it is a time of some stress and change. Help your new mom out by keeping the vet involved, and providing the comfort and care she and her new pups need.
