pet turtleA recent outbreak of salmonella poisoning between May, 2007 and December, 2007 has been linked to small pet turtles. This is according to the CDC. Salmonella poisoning causes bloody stool, diarrhea, cramping, and fever. Most of the people affected were small children. Contact with reptile feces will lead to salmonella poisoning, and small turtles are especially high carriers. So, enjoy your small pet turtles … but keep your hands well washed.
