A Rottweiler is a large dog breed that originated in Rottweil, Germany. At first, the Rottweiler was used as a herd dog for farm animals and as a working dog to carry heavy loads to and from the market. During World Wars I and II, Rottweilers were war time guard animals. Currently, they are commonly used as guard and police dogs and make kind, gentle pets unless otherwise trained. They are one of the most loyal of all dog breeds, and are known to give everything they have when protecting their owner and family. They have exceptional memories, and tend to hold grudges against those who upset their owner. Rottweilers are calm and love to lie down or sit next to their favorite person.
