It is not unusual for dogs, and sometimes cats, to get depressed when their best friend goes back to school or off to college. This time of year is stressful for many pets. Here are some tips to help your sorrowful pet feel happier:
Getting a lot of exercise can help dogs. THis is according to animal behaviorist Mary Lee Nitschke, a professor of psychology at Linfield College in Portland, Ore.
“The more physical exercise, the more endorphin release you can provide, and that’s all good,†she says, referring to feel-good chemicals in the brain.
Go on leisurely walks, play fetch, practice new dog tricks, whatever your special pet finds enjoyable. These activities release endorphins which are feel-good hormones; beneficial for you and your pet.
