According to the National Geographic News, the Siberian Tiger, also known as the Amur Tiger, was hunted down to only 4o animals in the 1940′s. Now, the Animal Conservation Society estimates that roughly 600 Siberian Tigers exist in the world. Although this sounds nice and safe, the Siberian Tiger is still over-hunted and used for Chinese medicine.
“There is still demand from China for the bones of the Amur tiger,” Vaisman told Reuters. “An Amur skeleton from Russia will sell for around [U.S.] $5,000 in China.”

Loggers in Russia are also a challenge for animal conservationists who are working hard to protect the Siberian Tiger and its invironment.
