A new study, conducted by the Purina Pet Institute, ranked the top five U.S. cities that are the healthiest cities for pets. The rankings were based upon superior care, services available, and legislation for pets’ health and well-being. Criteria such as veterinarian-to-pet ratios, incidence of obesity, and rabies legislation were three of the thirty issues considered in the rankings. The top five Pet Healthiest Cities are:
1. Denver, Colo.
2. Oakland, Calif.
3. Portland, Ore.
4. Anaheim, Calif.
5. San Francisco, Calif.
“This is the only comprehensive evaluation of factors that impact pets’ health and affect their quality of life,” said Dan Christian, DVM, executive director of the Purina Pet Institute.
According to this study, the data suggests that optimal weight for your pet, body condition, and preventative care are major issues.
