Timing, Consistency, and Reinforcement

It has been proven through research that a dog has a period of 1.5 seconds to associate a cause with an effect. Also, behaviors that have been consistently rewarded will occur more often, and behaviors that have resulted in correction will happen less often. In other words, unless you witness the act, there really is no sense punishing or correcting behavior that has happened earlier in the day. It only confuses your pet. With consistency, most dogs are very easy to train. In addition to timing and consistency, it is important to consider the type of reinforcement you will give. For example, if your dog enjoys playing with you more than getting a treat, play with your pup immediately following positive behavior. Personalize your training style to suit you and your pet.
