Tree and DogThis time of year poses many additional safety concerns for your cats, dogs, and any pet with freedom in your house. Your decorations, Christmas tree, and Christmas lights are all loaded with things that entice your lovable pet’s curiosity. Long strands of tinsel are irresistible to cats and dogs, but if they are swallowed strands of tinsel can cause an intestinal blockage. Glass ornaments are “playthings” to your pet, but the glass shatters easily and can cut your pet. Christmas lights can be chewed, pulled, and stripped causing an electrical safety hazard for you and your pet. Also, we all seem to indulge in life’s little pleasures around the holidays (delicious sweets and chocolates) that could make our pets sick if they help themselves to candy dishes or unattended tables of food.

It’s a wonderful time of year to enjoy our pets. Have a happy, healthy, and safe season!
