As we begin October, so much runs through our minds: time to plant the mums, get the cornstalks on our front porch, gaze at pumpkin patches as we pass by and decide to wait one more week before stopping, and, last but not least, what are we going to dress our pups up as for Halloween?!

I thought these two were just adorable, and will continue to post my favs throught the month.

Is Swiffer Wet-Jet poisoning your pet

There have been rumors that Swiffer Wet-Jet products have an ingredient that is similar to anti-freeze, and could have detrimental health effects on your pets. Because the wet-jet formula is sprayed on your floor then wiped, the residue remains on your floor.

As your pet walks across the floor, the chemicals stick to your pet’s paws. When your pet licks his paws, the poison goes into his system. There have been reports of liver failure and kidney failure because of the ingredients in the wet-jet solution. I have chosen to be safe and not sorry, and have discontinued using the Swiffer Wet-Jet on my floors.

Defenseless puppies need defending

Puppy mills are scattered around the country that keep dogs in small cages stacked on top of each other so that the fecal matter drops through each cage to the one below, with unkempt and neglected dogs inside whose only purpose is to continuously breed and produce puppies. The puppies are taken from their mom at an age that is much too early for a healthy separation and then sold to either pet store chains dealers that are not regisitered. Not a pretty picture.

Let’s do our part to defend these defenseless puppies. Be sure of the origin of the puppy you want to purchase, spread the word to educate people on the atrocities of puppy mills, or go to this link to sign a petition online that will push congress to pass legislation protecting these abused animals.

Beagle saves owner’s life

This amazing story is from goodnewsblog.com and happened in Ocoee, Florida.

A Beagle named Belle, who is also a service dog, sensed when her owner was slipping into a diabetic coma and dialed 911 for help. She barked and whined into the cell phone (just as she was trained to do) and help was on its way.

Service dogs are a true asset for people who need assistance. It is costly to train them, but a saved life is well worth it!
